Back To School

Homeschoolers, check out this post on Kim's blog.
Today is our first day of school. If you think of us say a prayer that God will be with us this year and guide us.
Catrina is a Junior this year (can't hardly believe that!) Hannah is starting 7th grade. I officially have a Sr. high school and a Jr. high student only. No elementary any more. Kind of makes me sad.

Catrina has already started Algebra II at the co-op for our homeschool support group. She is really enjoying the class and it has been VERY helpful.
We are starting a new science with Hannah today. It is new to her but not to her sister. However, Catrina didn't start using this science until much later so this younger grade will be new to me too. If you are interested click here to check it what we will be working on this year.

Hannah and I are also going to be working on cursive italics instead of the traditional cursive. Here are some interesting comments about italics versus traditional cursive. I think this will be a lot easier and yet quite legible.
An interesting comment below.....

"Charlotte Mason, a British educator who lived from 1842-1923, recommended teaching children Italic handwriting. She wrote: "Some years ago I heard of a lady who was elaborating, by means of the study of old Italian and other manuscripts, a 'system of beautiful handwriting' which could be taught to children. [This is] a style of writing which is pleasant to acquire because it is beautiful to behold. It is surprising how quickly young children, even those already confirmed in 'ugly' writing, take to this 'new handwriting.'" (Home Education, p. 235-236) "
