Army Private First Class Jaron Holliday was killed in Iraq and his family is reflecting on his life. Last Tuesday, flowers arrived for Kelly Holliday, to encourage her during her treatment for breast cancer. The News On 6’s Emory Bryan even though the flowers are dying, she can't throw them away, because they were sent by her son, who was killed Saturday in Iraq.

"I was so blessed by that. And he knows how much I love flowers and love roses especially," she said.

Jaron Holliday was 15 when September 11th happened.

"He really took that personal, and he couldn't believe anybody would do that,” said Jaron Holliday’s father John Holliday.

John Holliday says that's when he decided to enlist.

"He wanted to go. We had talked it over several times. We gave him our blessing. He wanted to be a cavalry scout. He wanted to be airborne, to get his wings,” he said.

"He tried to prepare us for things we weren't prepared to talk about, but you know that grips your heart and at the same time I believed in what his purpose and his goal was,” said Kelly Holliday.

Jaron Holliday's parents say just as they are confident in their faith, their son was sure of his beliefs and his purpose.

“America is worth fighting for. And the cost is high, and sometimes, it's personal. We're not angry. We would have picked it differently, but we don't get a vote in that. We'll be better in time,” John Holliday said.

Services for Jaron Holliday will likely be next Monday or Tuesday. His body is in Dover, Delaware, awaiting a military escort home.

I'd like to organize a sizeable group to stand with flags in honor
of Jaron's sacrifice in service to our country. A family member
today said this sounded great & to go ahead & plan it.

I know I've seen pictures from other military funerals where
communities will turn out, even letting kids out of school, to stand
along the street with flags (for instance,
http://www.jameskiehl.com/index.html). I'd like to show that kind
of support from the homeschool community & from the extended church
family. I will need to order small American flags WEDNESDAY MORNING
in order to be sure to have them by early next week (which is when
they anticipate the service will be). If anyone has suggestions on
how the organizing of a group is best done, or how many flags I
might need, please let me know. I think individual families can
decide whether to attend the service or simply stand outside, lining
as much of the street as possible afterward. I need suggestions on
how to organize other homeschoolers (particularly CHEF, since Jaron
graduated with them) & even other church groups or other groups
within TBC, that would be willing to sacrifice some time to show our
gratitude & respect to the Holliday family.

More details will be forthcoming when the funeral arrangements are
set.
But please do either let me know of ways of contacting other
believers & other homeschoolers - or just forward the email.

Thanks!

Hello Family and Friends,
I first just want to say that the outpouring of love and support has
been more than we could ever imagine. You all have literally
wrapped your loving arms around this hurting family and made a very
difficult situation a little more bearable. I have so much to say,
and hopefully will have an opportunity at a later date. But until
then, just know that The Holliday Tribe are feeling very loved right
now - and you are all to blame for it.
Our deepest gratitude cannot be expressed in mere words. So if you
are able to come to the funeral, please don't leave without allow us
to express our gratefulness to you and allowing me to hug your
neck. Our hearts are so full at this time...

We were finally able to solidify the dates for Jaron's Home-going
Celebration. And it will be a celebration of life, because Jaron
would have it no other way. So the following information is for
those who have a desire to be here and share in that celebration.
