Have you noticed all the talk or ads for pomegranate juice? After hearing a doctor say he drank 2 oz. of pomegranate juice a day I was curious so I did a bit of research. To learn a lot of things about it click here. Here are some of the highlights.
- Pomegranate juice has been shown to work well as a blood thinner. Excellent for promoting blood flow to the heart. It also has been shown to reduce plaque in the arteries, and to raise “good” levels of cholesterol while helping lower “bad” cholesterol.
- Antioxidants like those found in pomegranate juice fight hard to help prevent free radicals from doing their damage.
- There are more polyphenol antioxidants in pomegranate juice than other drinks. That makes it an antioxidant superpower.
- A glass of pomegranate juice contains about 40% of the US Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of Vitamin C. It also has Vitamin A, E and folic acid in good quantities.
- It has excellent antioxidant properties. It has about three times more antioxidants ounce for ounce than does red wine or green tea.
- Some research has also evaluated the antioxidant nature of pomegranate juice and its usefulness in fighting certain forms of cancer. Pomegranate juice has been tentatively shown to reduce incidence of breast and skin cancer. It has also been tested and shown to slow the growth of prostate cancer in mice.
- Another interesting study has evaluated pomegranate juice and osteoarthritis. Pomegranate juice tends to act as an inhibitor on enzymes responsible for damaging cartilage. These studies applied extract of pomegranate directly onto damaged cartilage.
Below is an excellent link that compares the different ones on the market. I was happy to see the one I am buying is a really good one. This juice isn't cheap so if you are going to buy it you will want to make sure what you are buying is good. If you think it is too expensive just imagine the cost for the many drugs people are put on to deal with the symptoms of the above problems.
