This has been a long time in between posts. I am sitting here having a cup of Earl Grey Tea & thought I would blog. I have been busy so haven't had much time for posting. Also, I went out of town for a few days. For some reason when I go out of town it really takes me a while to get back into my routine. I guess the older I get the more I become a creature of habit. I think I will be back in full swing today and this week.
What has been going on you are wondering? Hannah and I went to visit my sister. It was the first time in what we suspect has been around 6 years. Yes, I know that is a long time and hopefully that won't happen again. We had a wonderful visit and I am waiting on pictures. It's over a 4 hour drive and about an hour into it I realized I forgot my camera! Ugh! I was so frustrated! When we got there I kept asking to take pictures with my sister's camera and she let me. She is going to send me a disk with all our pictures on there. Most likely when I post those I will tell you more about our visit.
Below is a picture that I love. It was taken last night when Michael was grilling hamburgers. Catrina will often go out and hang out with her Dad at that time. They have a nice time talking and spending time together. I am so glad my girls enjoy spending time with their parents. I used to hear people talk about how horrible it was when you hit the teen years. They would talk about it in such a negative way. Michael and I really didn't believe it. I have a 16 & 1/2 yr. old and my second 12 yr. old and the teen years have been great! I love the teen years and they are nothing like what most people say. I think if my children had spent most of their lives hanging out with their peers for several hours a day things could be and probably would be different. God is good and my children are wonderful. I am truly blessed! (Can you guess who took this picture?)
Another thing that is going on is we have been having issues with our dryer. It was running but there wasn't any heat. After a few days (this happened when Michael injured his foot...possible stress fracture....and I didn't want him to have to deal with the garage steps on crutches! Not going to happen.) and once he recovered he ended up having to order parts for the dryer. (Yes, he has recovered and is doing much better.) They are on their way and hopefully our dryer will be working soon. I am so thankful that my husband is able to diagnose and usually fix problems around the house. It is such a blessing....he is such a blessing. One good thing that happened is that after spending way too long in a laundromat with a really creepy guy (he kept staring at my BABY-Hannah) we discovered a brand new nice laundromat much closer to home. For those of you familiar with our area it is right behind Coney Islander and it is NICE! I have never been in one this new and this nice and CLEAN! We are going to be visiting that lovely place again today after I purchase some more laundry baskets. Apparently, when all the strips on the basket are sticking straight out and it looks more like a spider it is time to get new ones. (Notice the top picture , back when my laundry baskets were newer.)
Today, Catrina is going to start with a math tutor. She has really been struggling with Algebra and of course, I am no help at all. We decided it was time to get her some "professional help". The tutor is going to help her complete Algebra and in the fall is teaching Algebra II and Geometry for our homeschool support group's co-op. It is going to be expensive but it is much needed. She has been taking and will continue taking the Book Discussion Class in co-op too. If anyone has any advice on taking Algebra II or Geometry we are open to suggestions. This is uncharted territory for me.
Update on math tutor: I was amazed at how excited Catrina was when she got done with her new math tutor. She has been almost depressed about Algebra over the last year or so. NOW she is excited! She understands things better and sees that there is hope! It doesn't have to be a drudgery anymore. Of course, now I am wishing we had gotten the tutor a long time ago. However, from here on out it will be good and she is very happy. This same tutor is the same person that will be teaching her when she takes Geometry in co-op in the fall. Yes, we have made the decision that it will be Geometry and then Algebra II. The tutor is another homeschool Mom in our group. Catrina said she was so impressed with this lady because she knew everything about Algebra. She said, "she can pull algebra equations out of her hat"! I thought that was cute! We are SO happy about this! God always makes a way!
I won't bore you with any more of what is going on here. There isn't anything else very exciting....just the day to day kind of stuff. ~Kim
