Make Your Own Hummingbird Feeder

This is a neat thing. If you have children or grandchildren you might want to give this a shot. Well, I think even if I didn't have children I might try this myself.

Just go
here to get the information for making your own hummingbird feeder or feeders. Can you ever really have too many of them? ( I sure don't think so!) If you have never seen a hummingbird or haven't ever had a hummingbird feeder you have GOT to either make one or buy one. They are so much fun to watch. The best place to put one is on a window where you can see them close up. For years we have had one on a window or on the sliding glass doors. At certain times of the day you can stand real close to the glass and the birds can't see you.

Oh, one more hint. You do NOT need to put red food coloring in your hummingbird feeder water. You can put all the red you want ON the feeder and that will attract them. The funny thing is when you see a regular sized bird trying to get into your feeder. Must be pretty frustrating for them.....but funny for me to watch! LOL

Since I am talking about hummingbirds I have a neat story for you. The last place we lived had a really neat deck. We put a feeder on a window right by the front door. One day Michael stepped out on the deck, opened the door all the way, and propped it open. I think he was trying to move something in or out of the house. Well, a hummingbird came along and didn't see the clear glass door. It hit the door on it's way to the feeder. When it hit the door it immediately hit the floor! Michael was shocked and of course felt terrible. The tiny little bird looked dead. Michael very gently picked it up. He held it in his hands for a few minutes looking at it. He could see that it was still breathing. Finally, after a while, the little bird got up and stood on his hand. A little while later it flew away. It was the neatest thing for him to actually get to hold a hummingbird.

Below are some pictures of the finished product. If we do it I will post pictures of ours. :-)
