This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look: ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." Jeremiah 6:16
The verse above I have heard twice in the last two days. When I heard it the first time it was on the radio. I thought what a wonderful verse that is. Of course, by the time I heard it I didn't remember where it was found. I didn't think I would find it. Then, this morning, there it is! God provides doesn't HE?
I thought this verse was great because of the wisdom that it gives. "Ask for the ancient paths" it says. It then goes on to say that the ancient paths are the good ways. We should walk in those paths and we will find rest in it. As most of us know the worldly paths do not give us rest. We can follow many paths but there is only one that will truly give us rest. Many people have followed the path to popularity, the path to success, the path to wealth, and in the end the path to self-destruction. All these paths seem like a good idea when we first step foot on them. However, although it may take a while we eventually see the pointlessness of it all. The ancient paths are good and they lead us TO God and not away from Him.
I also notice in this verse that it takes effort. The person standing there is looking and asking. We don't just stumble across the path. We must be looking for it and we must be asking.
Thank you God for pointing us in the direction of the ancient and good paths.
