I heard a little voice from Hannah's room call out, "Mom, come here, quickly". I thought maybe she found something like a big nasty spider or something. When I walked into the room to see what she called me about I couldn't believe my eyes. Hannah had a needle stuck in her knee! The problem was that when I tried to pull it out it wouldn't budge! (By the way, this wasn't your typical sewing needle. It was one Hannah had used for crafts. These were used for putting sequins on and shoving into round Styrofoam balls-Christmas tree ornaments.) I had Catrina get me another needle like the one in her knee. I measured it and discovered it was an inch and a half long. OVER half of it couldn't be seen!
Apparently, Hannah got on her knees to look in a drawer. She said she noticed a little sting but kept going. It wasn't until she sat back that she realized there was a serious problem.
As I sat there stunned I wondered what to do. The best thing would be to pull it out but of course, like I mentioned when I tried that it wouldn't come out at all. Then I was concerned that the needle had been bent.
I called my wonderful and smart hubby hoping he would have a suggestion. He was as shocked as I was. As I figured, he said we had 3 options, I pull it out, he comes home and pulls it out, or we take her to the ER. However, at this point she couldn't unbend her knee so I didn't see how that was going to work. She was in a panic also.
Michael said we should get the pliers out. If I had a lot of resistance I should stop. I was concerned that it might be in the bone of the knee cap!!! After about 20 minutes of crying and pleading and a few more calls from Dad to "just pull it out" we finally did it. This was a terrible thing to have to do because I was so worried about pulling it out exactly the way it went in. Ugh! I know Hannah was in a lot of pain and stressed but I was amazed at how stressed that I was!
Well, I have good news to report. We made it! After we pulled it out Hannah said it didn't hurt as much coming out as she thought. We have the photographic evidence below. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!!!

Yes, in case you are wondering we WILL be keeping an eye on it. If there are any problems we will take her to the Dr. I don't believe there will be an issue though. Good news, she had a Tetanus shot not too long ago so we don't have to worry about that. LOL
