Demolition Day!

Saturday was demolition day at our house. We are getting ready to fix a problem we have had since not long after we moved into this house. Yes, it has been over 10 years since we moved in here so it is officially been bumped from "fixing a problem" to "dream come true". We are SO excited. As with all dreams there is a painful process that gets you there. ;-)

The dream come true is a new bathtub, shower/ shower walls, and ceiling. (We will be thanking Re-Bath of Tulsa in a later post, I am sure. By the way, if you tell them we sent you we get a referral fee so don't forget to mention us. ) When we moved into this house we found that someone had covered the walls of the shower with something that is NOT appropriate for any place close to a bathroom. If you have a bath room with NO humidity it might work for you.
This is some sort of fake looking tile (above) that is more like paneling. Not very pretty. We also noticed, later on that it had been painted to keep us from seeing the MOLD. Yuck! Well, here are the before pictures.

In the picture below, you can see the mold issues on the ceiling. No matter what we did the mold was out of control. Also, you can see above the window a tension rod. There was a clear shower curtain there to try to protect the window from all the water too. Apparently, when they built this house they did not build it with a future shower in mind. You can also see our NEW window. We bought that not too long ago and got to experience the JOY of letting someone else put it in. They guy was in and out in an hour. We had a brand new window when he left. You can see that even with the shower curtain as a barrier there was still mold that was out of control

Below is where the real mess fun begins!

Isn't that pretty? No!

Here is Michael doing that thing that all you men know you want to do.
Check him out!

And here is my fabulous husband doing one of the many things he does very well. He is cleaning up a mess before it even gets started. Well, I know he made a bit of a mess already but he thought it was going to get a WHOLE LOT WORSE. I don't think he was a boy scout but he has adopted their motto pretty well. He is always prepared! (Side note: I think I need to ask his Mom but I suspect he came out of the womb with paper towels and fantastic!)

This is where he is getting a fantastic surprise. He put the plastic sheeting down to protect the bathroom from all the 50-60 yr. old blown in insulation that was sure to fall on us. What is this? Another layer between us and the attic. Yippee!

As if that wasn't enough of a surprise we have another one.

Well, what do you know.

That sure explains a lot doesn't it? Who in their sober right mind would put paneling in a humid, hot, wet, bathroom shower?
The guy that emptied this bottle I guess!

Now you are in on our embarrassing little bathroom secret. I am talking about the crazy looking bathroom, not the whiskey bottle, silly! This has been like therapy for me. I have thrown this skeleton out of the closet and Re-Bath will re-dress it and fix it all up for us. We will turn that dirty , scary little skeleton into a beautiful thing!
Tomorrow is part 2! Yet, another surprise! Stay tuned!
